After three years of work: Joomla 1.6 is ready

After three years of work and thousands of hours of programming and testing, Joomla has announced that v-1.6 is ready for the public.

Joomla, the most versatile-workhorse-CMS, announced in early March 2011 on a new version 1.6.1 that is ready for installation. It is still unclear, however, whether the version is stable enough for a live site.  A very good installation guide is published here

If you are a user of Joomla and you have already installed the old 1.5 version, you can also update the new version. But, you have to remember that there are significant differences between 1.5 to 1.6, despite the small jump in version numbers. You can read here a thorough comparison between the versions 1.5 and 1.6.

Previous versions of Joomla gained immense popularity among web site managers. More than 2.4% of all websites around the world are installed on this platform.
